Building the Birkwood was more than just constructing a beautiful 38,000 SF structure. It was truly the type of project that captured a vision and brought it to life. Nestled next to the existing facility, formerly known as The Madison, the Birkwood dreamed of expanding its current program to further reach the community of Fort Madison and give them a range of lifestyle choices.  

Construction began in June of 2022 and the Schickedanz team, along with their team of fantastic subcontractors, knew that every aspect of the construction had to meet the highest standards of quality and safety for the life of the structure for its residents. Ensuring these results through the Schickedanz Quality Program, stunning living spaces began to form where residents could thrive in comfort and style.  

With 24 independent and assisted units and 12 memory care suites the total complex aesthetically blends mid-high end materials and finishes to give residents the best living experiences. The Birkwood Village also reflects their core culture of “Friendships. Wellness. Peace of Mind.” within every detail of the building. Pebbles Schneider, Project Manager for Schickedanz, comments “It was great to be a part of a building that serves a greater purpose. Seeing what they do for the residents is something really special to be a part of”.  

The Birkwood Senior Living Village features more than just thoughtfully curated living spaces. The Birkwood also hosts (2) therapy whirlpool health spas, elevator, (2) fireplace lounges, a salon, (2) dining rooms with delicious dining options, a pub, ice cream stop, coffee bar, courtyards, beautiful landscaping, fitness center, a balcony overlook and an activity area and dedicated department directors keeping everything exciting and running smoothly.
