P.A.W. Animal Shelter
PAW Animal Shelter. Animal Welfare / Commercial Mixed Use. Fort Madison, Iowa.
Client: PAW Animal Shelter
Creating a state-of-the-art animal care and adoption facility in Fort Madison, Iowa was a long-time coming necessity. The mission of PAW had vastly outstripped their existing facility which created the dire need to build a new facility. Formerly located next door to the new property, the original location was less than ideal conditions. The space was too small, poorly lit, and lacked sufficient ventilation and access to basic resources was inconvenient at best.
The new home of the 27,000 SF PAW Animal Shelter is a great improvement! The space was designed to meet the client's current needs and master-planned to be flexible for growth to house a wide variety of projects under one roof. The building - situated on 3 acres on the West end of Fort Madison - is a highly accessible and functional facility for the animals residing there, the caretakers, staff and the general public wishing to adopt an animal. The design intent was to construct a facility that was well lit, allow for offices and meeting space, grooming areas, mother & baby suites, animal health areas and for ample space for potential adopters and animals to engage.
Schickedanz's construction details allowed for security, durability against damage to the facility, ease of short term and long term maintenance and efficiencies for both staff and animals. It was amazing to be a part of such an impactful project to our community and to local communities that come to PAW to find their next furry friend.
